Spotlight : Samuel Abbaticola

Sam Abbaticola, Director of Sales at LMF, isn’t afraid of a challenge. His addition to the firm has brought a new level of energy and focus, landing major clients and never being too shy to brag a bit about it. In this conversation, Sam discusses his journey to LMF, his strategies for client acquisition and relationship management, and how he’s fostering a culture of growth and innovation.

Sam, thanks for sitting down with me. Let’s start at the beginning. When did you join LMF, and what were you doing beforehand?

I joined LMF in September 2023. I’ve known Christian, the managing partner, my whole life, so there’s definitely a personal connection there. Before LMF, I was in pharma/media sales for about two and a half years. It was a great experience, but I felt limited in terms of growth potential. I had other offers, but Christian and I saw a huge opportunity at LMF. They were strong on client services but lacked a dedicated sales division. After a couple of weeks of prospecting and outreach, we sat down, talked it through, and I jumped at the chance to build something big. It felt like a defining moment—the potential to really make an impact at such a dynamic company was too good to pass up.

You mentioned the strength of the company. What specifically attracted you to LMF?

The client roster – Hearst, Rolex, PGA Tour – speaks for itself. These are major players, and while you’d expect them to work with established agencies, Christian and his team were already making inroads. What really stood out was LMF’s focus on clarity. They solve complex problems by simplifying them. They build functional marketing tools, creative that actually works. Clients immediately see the value – they appreciate the direct communication, our energy, and our drive to get things done.

In a nutshell, what sets LMF apart?

The quality of our creative gets us in the door, but our organized, no-nonsense approach is what builds lasting relationships. So many firms waste time with drawn-out calls, jargon, and confusing presentations. We have no tolerance for that. We keep things clear and concise, and our clients love us for that. They’re tired of the fluff.

Cold outreach sounds like a nightmare. How do you approach it?

Of course, mountains of inbound leads would be a dream, but we’re not quite there yet. So referrals and cold outreach are huge for us. And cold outreach is funny. Because it can be so boring, it’s usually delegated to the office drudge. But that actually creates a huge opportunity for us. Because our competitors do the bare minimum (bland, flat, very automatic and generic outreach), we stand out with really tactful, thoughtful public communication. We don’t send out thousands of messages per day, so we lose the volume game, sure. But we maximize interactions by investing time into each cold touchpoint… and our clients can sense it. It sends the right message, creates the perfect first impression, gets them to say “Wow, there’s a person behind this message. A kind and thoughtful one, too. Sure, I’ll respond…”

Can you elaborate how LMF has changed since you joined? There’s a perception that the firm was quieter before you came on board.

I’m focused on getting the word out about LMF. I believe in talking to everyone. Christian’s more introverted. He’s hesitant to come across as needy or ask for favors, which I believe is actually a limiting factor. I understand his perspective, but that’s not how you grow a business. We’re not “coasting” here; we’re here to win.

That makes sense. So, how do you balance that drive for growth with maintaining strong client relationships?

It’s all about the personal touch. Just like our outreach, our relationship management is deep and meaningful. Prompt service is essential; lag time is unacceptable. I’m obsessive about staying on top of things. I respond to every message as quickly as I can, ensuring the response meets our company’s standards. That often means immediately getting creatives or partners on the phone. It takes real attention to detail and a willingness to go the extra mile, even for our least demanding clients.

People throw around the phrase “white-glove service.” What does that actually mean, for you, in practice?

It means unburdening our clients. That includes shielding them from unnecessary meetings and handling all the logistical headaches they shouldn’t have to worry about. Whether it’s working with unions, securing permits, managing transportation and staffing – we take it all on. We make the entire process seamless, from contracts and billing to the final product. My pharma background taught me that delegating to vendors is just a tiny part of our clients’ jobs. They’re juggling countless other responsibilities. We aim to make everything as turnkey as possible, especially when dealing with national budgets and complex hierarchies. By taking ownership and keeping things transparent, we minimize the demands on our clients. That’s what allows us to be so fast and agile.

What advice would you give to someone looking to build their network and generate inbound leads?

It’s all about momentum. Beat your chest. If you have an edge, something to be proud of, don’t wait for others to discover it. Tell the world. And, in time, that will come.
